TOP 10 FACTS ABOUT STRESS

  • 1. Too much stress can lead to physical problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, chest pain, and an irregular heartbeat.

Stress is known as the “silent killer.” Because people feel stress often, they don’t take it too seriously when it starts to build up. Although a little stress is a good thing, if you don’t give yourself a break every once in awhile, your body will force you to take a break.

    2. Stress alters the neurochemical makeup of the body.

In fact, stress is the cause of 30% of all infertility problems. In women, it affects the maturation and release of the human egg. It can also cause spasms in the fallopian tubs and uterus, affecting implantation. For men, too much stress affects sperm count.

    3. During extremely stressful situations, your pupils dilate.

This is similar to how your pupils dilate when you see someone you’re attracted to. The dilation is caused by a natural reaction of your body trying to gather more information about a situation.

    4. Men are more likely to develop stress-related disorders.

Because women are typically better at handling emotional problems, men have a higher chance of developing a disorder as a result of too much stress. These disorders include hypertension, aggressive behavior, and abuse of drugs and alcohol.

    5. Stress can cause hair loss.

After an incredibly stressful event, telogen effluvium (hair loss) can begin up to three months later.

    6. Being stressed has an effect on your blood.

Along with high blood pressure, during stressful situations, your blood will become “sticky.” This is your body naturally preparing for an injury. It also causes the capillaries to close, which restricts bleeding if you were to get a wound.

    7. Your attitude can change your stress level.

This is especially true for perfectionists, pessimists, and “type A” personalities. The wrong attitude can lead to more stress and even sickness. People with the above personality types often have certain thought and behavior patterns that lead to their bodies having too much to handle.

    8. Thinking about stress relief can cause actual stress relief.

This is a mind over matter type of thing. By positive thinking, affirmations, and visual fantasies, you can lower your stress levels. Because stress is often caused by overthinking, changing your thoughts can lead to instant relaxation.

    9. Stress can prematurely age you.

Stress adds a lot of “wear and tear” to different areas of your body, causing you to look and feel more run down. The natural results of “aging” can happen earlier for people who are often stressed or overwhelmed.

    10. Simple things can lower stress levels.

Things as simple as laughing, dark chocolate, exercise, music, meditation, and sleeping are all proven to reduce the levels of stress and leave you feeling fresh, bright, and rejuvenated.
